The pediatric nurse specialty focuses on children from newborns to teenagers. It doesn’t matter what medical or surgical condition a child may suffer from; the pediatric nurse must know how to handle the patient. This means that a nurse may handle an orthopedic, cardiac, neurologic, and renal patient within the same shift, making the specialty more challenging than others. It demands that nurses have an impressive width and depth of clinical knowledge that they can utilize at a moment’s notice.
